5 Misconceptions About Working with a Personal Stylist

I sometimes hear things about working with a personal stylist that aren’t exactly true, so in an effort to sort out fact from fiction I’ve pulled together a list of the top misconceptions I’ve heard and debunked them for you. Read on below!

Pink Circle #1

“I can’t afford a personal stylist.”

Some people think stylists only cater to rich women living in huge houses with a bunch of servants – but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Although the price of a service can vary from one stylist to the next, I pride myself on offering reasonably priced services that are affordable and fit into many different budget.

Pink Circle #1

“A stylist won’t work within my budget.”

Whether your budget for a dress is $500 or $5, I’ll make it work – my mission is always to find the perfect looks for you at any price point. And although a prevalent myth out there is personal stylists will only suggest expensive clothing from fancy designers or high end boutiques, I’ll shop anywhere from Saks to Target. And since there’s no point in suggesting clothing you couldn’t afford, I make sure I have a thorough understanding of your budget and which stores you prefer right from the get-go.

Pink Circle #1

“I’ll be forced to wear things I don’t like.”

I make it clear with my clients that there is a big distinction between going a little out of your comfort zone to boost your style, and wearing something you truly don’t like. Don’t let anyone – and I mean anyone (not your sister, your friend, a magazine, trends, or me) tell you that you have to wear something if you truly don’t feel comfortable in it. I say time and time again that confidence is every woman’s best accessory and at the root of that is the idea that you should feel comfortable and great in whatever you’re wearing.

Pink Circle #1

“My stylist will judge my current clothing/wardrobe/style.”

When it comes to working with a personal stylist, it’s really important that you find someone you feel comfortable with. And if you are feeling judged by your stylist, pick another one. I never judge any of my clients for their style choices (hey, I’ve made a ton of bad style picks for myself over the years!) and my goal is always to get to the root of why you like to wear or are hanging on to certain items so we can figure out the best ways to pull off your desired look.

Pink Circle #1

“Hiring a personal stylist is a waste of money.”

I totally get this – deep down I am a bargain hunter and I hate wasting money, but working with a stylist can actually save you in the long run. I mean seriously, how many of us have items in our closet that we bought, thinking we’d wear it, but then held onto it for years because we don’t know how to style it? A lot of us do (even me). But that’s why working with a stylist is so great – because I help you find the perfect clothing for you, ensuring you won’t waste any more money on items you won’t wear.
