Renaissance/Victorian Woman: Don’t worry, you don’t need to go full on Queen Anne to pull off this look. This fall and winter one of the hottest trends is going to be velvet – it was all over the runway and I expect you’ll be seeing this everywhere you look, from dresses to accessories. Also going hand-in-hand with this style is an abundance of ruffles (necklines, sleeves, etc) and jewel tones (think “royal” colors like purple, dark green, deep red). Remember, if you’re the type that likes to slowly ease into trends, you can just incorporate small items like a velvet belt, or an evening clutch with some ruffle trim.

Jackets: I’ll probably never give up my favorite peacoat jackets, but it looks like two styles of jackets will be popular in the coming months: puffer jackets, and shearling bomber jackets. (The runway even featured puffer jackets with evening wear, but personally I think I’ll keep both of these with more casual or edgy looks).

Colors: Pantone’s Colors of the Year this year were Rose Quartz & Serenity. For Fall/Winter they’ve taken a darker approach on these colors with “Riverside” (a medium rich blue) and “Rose Cedar” (a darker rose tone). The runway also featured many bright colors, including combinations like yellow and pink together.

Accessories: Choker necklaces were everywhere! (I wasn’t kidding when I said the 90’s were back). In addition to seeing chokers as necklaces, you’ll probably also see a lot of tops with the choker style built into the design. And if you’re over teetering on slim stilettos, good news: chunky heeled shoes are back.
